This tune is said to be composed by Williamson Blyth, an Edinburgh fiddler and violin maker. I also learned from the recording of Natalie MacMaster. It’s range is a bit too wade for the Irish flute and I enjoyed it much.

Sleepy Maggie ～ Crossing the Minch ( ともにScottish Reel ) どちらもスコットランドのパイプ曲です。１曲目はアイリッシュ・セッションでも有名なJenny’s Chickenに似ています。 アイルランドの古いリールの大半はスコットランドから入ってきたそうなので、共通点がきっとあるのでしょう。徐々に 演奏パ―トが増えるこのアレンジは、ピアニストの上原奈未さんに習いました。キレ良く、ダイナミックに吹きたいです。 ２曲目は2007年にニュージーランドでフィドルのAlasdair Fraserの演奏を聴いて覚えたヴァージョンで、彼のアルバム ”Fire & Grace”にも収録されています。４パートあり、それぞれのパートの個性を出して演奏したいものです。

フィドル奏者、作曲家で、ストラススペイの神様と呼ばれたJames Scott Skinner (1843 – 1927)の作曲したスコットランドの曲を主に取り上げました もともとフィドル用に作曲されただけあり音域が広く、フルートには不向きですが、若干アレンジをして、挑戦してみます。 将来的には、スコットランドのフィドル音楽をフルートでどんどん演奏していきたいと考えています。ホーンパイプ～リールという流れになっています。
